Cultivating Possibilities

Having worked in Horticulture for 20+ years with a focus on ornamental Horticulture in Historic Estates, I have gained a wealth of experience in a wide variety of different gardens & garden styles.

Currently I am Head Gardener at a private residence in Co. Waterford. This is a great project for me to flesh out ideas, experiment with styles and develop a large garden with the owners on board.

I have experimented in a wide range of styles & projects from naturalistic, woodland gardens, formal herbaceous borders and wildflower meadows.

I believe that each garden can bring a huge amount of joy and happiness to their owners. Having worked in professional horticulture for such a long time, it has helped me gain an understanding on how to get the most out of any space and be able to create a style & personality that reflects the owners & the practicality of the garden.

Cultivating

Experience

During my career I have been lucky enough to travel on several plant expeditions. These have been to North West India, the Garhwal Himalayas, Madeira & Hengduan mountains in South West China.

I feel that seeing plants in their native habitats is one of the most informative ways to understand them. Seeing the growing conditions, manner of growth & how they interact with other plants in the wild can give enormous inspiration that can be transferred to a domestic garden setting.

I have also visited countless gardens across Europe developing an understanding of how gardens are created & managed in different climates whilst seeing different palettes of plants that are being used throughout.

Both of these activities mean that I am able to seek inspiration from a wide variety of sources and apply them to various garden settings; whether someone is looking for a very naturalistic woodland garden for a large area underplanted with various herbaceous perennials, or a formal border for the front of a house or extended border.
